In response to Representative Dick Gephardt's and Governor Bob Holden's unsavory, "politically correct" removal of Confederate battle flags at the Higginsville Old Confederate Home, and the Pilot Knob battle site; the Missouri Division - Sons Of Confederate Veterans held a flag rally at Jefferson City Missouri at the Governor's mansion and the state capitol. The event was organized by Missouri SCV Division Commander Gene Dressel. Additionally, to top things off, SCV C.I.C Ron G. Wilson came in to participate and was warmly greeted by the Division.
The rally commenced at high noon, in bitterly cold temperatures, as the proud men and women of Missouri stood up, and let their Confederate flags be seen by all. This event would be host to the most Confederate flags and assemblage of Compatriots at the Missouri State capitol since June 12, 1861 when Governor Claiborne Fox Jackson and Missouri General Sterling Price removed the state seal and many state records in preparation of the Yankee siege and occupation of the capitol by Generals Lyon and Blair on June 15, 1861.
Importantly, the SCV Flag Rally produced much visibility to passersby, whom ALL reacted with the exponential utmost SUPPORT!!! Many, many horns honked, "thumbs up", waves and other signs that the PEOPLE are behind this SCV support against Southern Heritage Genocide committed by Holden and Gephardt. And, also important to note, was that the rally was totally peaceful and conducted in TRUE Southern honor and pride, without one single incident or mishap!!!!!
The Missouri SCV Flag Rally of January 18, 2003 saw many television crews filming and airing the event, as well as widespread radio and newspaper coverage. A most glorious Southern day, and a day that Dixie as well as Missouri Sons Of Confederate Veterans can be proud of, and a day to remember for years to come!
